Invitation au Voyage: A Postcard Archive

Invitation au Voyage: The work of women architects, Oxford and Paris, 1963-86

Named after a text on a montage work by architect Eileen Grey for her house E1027, this collection of imagery was developed as part of Photolanguage’s exhibition Brutalist Imaginaries at the Maison Française d’Oxford (Jan-May, 2026). It was presented in one of the Maison’s original glass display cabinets. It shows the work of women architects in Oxford and Paris in the form of a postcard collection, and includes works by architects Judith Ledeboer, Alison Smithson, Iwona Buczkowska, Renée Gailhoustet and Marion Tournon-Branly, and the artist Catharine Val. The postcards all feature imagery by Photolanguage and adopt aspects of postcard design from the mid-20th century, suggesting a history of popular mediatisation of these works that never was.
