Modern London Map (1930-60)

Following the publication of the Brutalist Map of Paris (2017), Photolanguage were commissioned by Blue Crow Media to produce a new Modern Map of London in 2021. The map lists over fifty examples of modernist architecture from across London, with twenty-six new photographs recording both well-known examples of the period and opening up new itineraries of architectural exploration in the city. Our research developed a diverse survey across the period, reflecting the range of spatial and material responses to modernity in London from centre to periphery, and incorporating a mix of different building types, including housing, churches, retail, schools, libraries, hostels and infrastructure.
