‘Natural Growth’, Photolanguage’s building report on the Obernai High School, Alsace, by Duncan Lewis / Scape Architects, The Architects’ Journal, 14|04|05, pp. 27-34. (Cover image.)
This report documents one of the first uses of a vertical hydroponic plant system within architectural design, and explores Duncan Lewis’s strategies of site-specificity through the integration of urban and rural contexts and practices: ‘Here institutional conventions that separate landscape from town, recreational space from spaces of regulation and control, and work from play, are questioned by a series of playful hybridisations’ (p.32).
